Effective Reflective Practice skinny

Reflective practice is an essential part of the growth of all professionals throughout their careers – from initial training, through their continuing professional development, and even when they have achieved virtuosity in their particular area of expertise.

In this workshop David will present the key elements of the framework for Effective Reflective Practice he has devised with Christian van Nieuwerburgh for their recently published book (“Your Essential Guide to Effective Reflective Practice – Improving Practice through Self-reflection and Writing”, Sage, 2025). There will be opportunities for participants to begin to explore the relevance of the framework for their own reflective practice and personal and professional growth.

Key Benefits

By attending this short workshop you will:

  • gain an overview of the Effective Reflective Practice framework
  • start to explore how you can use the framework to strengthen your service to others through your own reflective practice; or
  • as appropriate, begin to explore how you can use the framework in preparing reflective assignments as part of accreditation processes.

Please choose an aspect of your work you would like to strengthen or change and bring this topic along to the workshop. You will have an opportunity to begin reflecting on your chosen topic in a paired, exploratory conversation with another participant. Please note: you will not be expected to reveal your thinking to the whole group and what you share in your paired conversation will be entirely under your control.

David’s slides for his presentation about the framework will be available as a pdf.
