This is a highly practical and experiential course. There will be mindfulness exercises, including creative visualisation and developing sensory awareness. We will also be getting creative with metaphor, symbolism and archetypes. Learning will be through group, small group and individual experience.
Participants will explore insights from alchemy and magical traditions, and learn techniques for personal and therapeutic change.
Participants are requested to bring an open mind, and a willingness to participate in individual and group practices.
The work of Carl Jung in particular, revisited the transformational value of esoteric and magical practices, with a particular interest in alchemy.
Alchemy has been misrepresented as the attempt to turn base matter into gold. Stripped of superstition and mystification, alchemy can offer accessible and powerful techniques of self-discovery and personal transformation hidden within magical symbolism, which can be safely explored and experienced.
Magic has been defined as the art of changing consciousness at will. This involves a shift in perception and hence the experience of what we call reality. This is not about trickery or sleight of hand, nor is belief in strange powers or otherworldly dimensions required, only an open mind and a willingness to participate.
The workshop would be particularly suitable for trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, but also anyone who is interested in exploring the ancient worlds of alchemy and magic within a modern therapeutic context.
Robin is an experienced counsellor and teacher of counselling based in Exeter.
Robin has practised meditation techniques for over 40 years, based both on Western and Eastern approaches. This has included involvement with mystery traditions that have historically been suppressed and even persecuted. Robin has extensive experience in exploring these transformational practices within a holistic therapeutic approach.
