As the year turns and the days begin to lengthen, many people will be taking a moment to look back on the past twelve months and think about their hopes for the future. Many counsellors and psychotherapists will choose this point to spend some time thinking through their professional development needs for the coming year, using supervision to explore their skills, competences and plans for their practice.
As I continue to settle into my role here at Iron Mill I’d like to take a moment to look back at some of our CPD events from 2024 and share some of what’s on offer and what’s in development for 2025 and beyond.
2024 was a busy year for CPD courses at the college. We welcomed back many current students and graduates (making the most of the discounts we offer to members of our network) and welcomed many new faces to the college. We delivered over 30 courses on topics from CBT to trauma.
Attendees at our CPD courses described them as, "A brilliant day, beyond expectation. Magical transformation. Delivered as promised," and "a great mixture of learning styles - experiential, visual, auditory and brought the topic to life."
Over the coming few months we’ll be offering courses on working with shame, managing disclosures of abuse, and using movement to understand and uncover archetypes. We’re also hoping to trial some events that offer an opportunity for experienced therapists from our community to come together with our wider network to explore key professional issues in a reflective and collaborative space.
As we move into the new academic year in September, we’re exploring how we might develop themed series of events, including Private Practice (with workshops for new and established practitioners) and Bodies and Minds (looking at topics from neuroscience to somatic approaches to therapy) as well as our usual range of ‘one off’ events on key topics in clinical practice. Sign up to our mailing list to be among the first to hear and secure your place.
As our followers will know, dialogue is an important feature in any relationship, and we’d love to hear from you about how we can support your professional development needs. What topics would you like to see more of? Which inspirational trainers would you like to hear more from? What’s important to you in your professional learning – learning a new skill, deepening and developing existing skills, making connections? Get in touch with us by emailing CPD@ironmill.co.uk
I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas and feedback and hoping to meet you at a CPD event soon.

P.S. Do consider joining our Alumni Network if you’re a graduate of the college. There’s no cost and we have some exciting (and free to members) CPD opportunities in development.
