These Terms and Conditions are effective from 1st September 2021. Please read this document carefully. You will be required to indicate your consent to its conditions on your programme application form.
To ensure a place on the programme of your choice, Iron Mill College recommends that you complete the online application form, plus payment of the booking deposit for your chosen programme at www.ironmill.co.uk.
For the Certificate in Counselling and Iron Mill College Post Qualifying courses:
For the Foundation Year in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Advanced Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy courses:
For the Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Degree validated by the University of Worcester: Applicants should follow the University’s admissions process, which has its own Terms and Conditions.
Upon receipt of an application, you may be required to attend an interview as part of the application process. You will be notified whether you have been offered a place on the course and invited to pay the enrolment deposit within 5 working days of interview.
Courses may have varying entry requirements; it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they fulfil the minimum entry requirements for their chosen programme of study and ensure that the programme chosen is suitable for their needs and level of ability. If Iron Mill College identifies that the applicant has not met the minimum requirement for the programme, Iron Mill College has the right to withhold an offer of a place on the course.
Once an applicant accepts an offer of a place on a course at Iron Mill College, they agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the College. Please see our Student Agreement, Terms and Conditions, available on our website.
Iron Mill College does not require you to have a qualification in English language or to take a specific test before you can register for a course. However, you do need to have a reasonable standard of English to study with us successfully. A poor understanding of English language makes study much more difficult, and you will need to allow extra time for study.
If you are concerned about your level of understanding, there are a number of organisations which will enable you to improve your English skills. Further information can be found on our website.
Applications should be completed and returned with the appropriate deposit for the programme of choice. Any deposit paid is deductible from the programme fees if the applicant is successful in securing a place on the programme.
Any tuition fee refund will be based on the date you advised the College of your withdrawal. If you withdraw from your course, you may be eligible for a refund of part of your tuition fees, taking into account the following conditions:
Tuition Fees outside of the above cancellation policy are non-refundable in all circumstances. The balance of fees for tuition is payable, in full, before the programme commences, or by availing of an agreed Iron Mill College Tuition Fee Contract payment plan, payable via Direct Debit Mandate only. Tuition Fees do not include the costs of Additional Requirements such as Personal Therapy, Supervision and CPD.
Alumni discounts can only be used by students and graduates of Iron Mill College’s Certificate in Counselling; Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling; FdA Integrative Counselling; BA(Hons) Integrative Counselling; Foundation TA Psychotherapy; Advanced TA Psychotherapy; Post-Qualifying Programmes. Anyone who uses a discount and who is not a student or graduate of Iron Mill College will be asked to pay the full fee amount or will be removed from enrolment in the programme. Discounts may only be used where applicable i.e. when it is stated that there is a discount available for the listed programme.
Once an applicant is enrolled on a programme of study and moves to student status, no part of the programme fees is refundable or transferable. No refund will be made in any circumstances to students who fail to attend classes or who commence a programme and subsequently feel that the programme does not suit them. Students who are having their fees paid or part-paid by a third party, should be aware that responsibility for payment of fees and liaison with these bodies’ rests solely with the student and not with Iron Mill College.
Students who wish to pay fees in advance, may leave monies on account for a maximum of one year, unless agreed by Iron Mill College, however upon re-entry into a programme the new fee structure will apply, and additional fees may be sought, where due.
Iron Mill College makes every effort to provide academic programmes as described, and to avoid altering programme dates, times, lecturers, venues etc. However, should it be necessary, Iron Mill College reserves the right to make appropriate changes and will notify the student body at the earliest opportunity.
All programmes run subject to demand and the formation of a viable class cohort. When a programme location cannot proceed due to the viability of the class cohort, a place will be offered in an alternative location where possible. A full refund will be given to all applicants if the programme offering does not proceed due to class numbers and the alternative location offered is not accepted. Refunds are not applicable once a student has enrolled onto the programme and the programme has started.
For Continuous Professional and/or Personal Development workshops: Applicants are entitled to a full refund of course fees paid, if they decide to cancel within 14-days of receipt of their application/booking. Cancellation of attendance must be confirmed in writing (e.g. email) within 10 working days before the course commences, otherwise the College may hold onto monies to be used against other short course offerings. Cancellation after this period will result in course fees being forfeited. Where a student receives a refund and chooses to keep the refunded fees on their account, this credit shall only be applicable to that course category. Credit will remain on the students account for a period of one year only from the date of refund at which time this will expire.
For online programmes: the Applicant will have the right to cancel their enrolment on the programme if the Applicant gives notice in writing (e.g. email) of cancellation to Iron Mill College within 14-days following the day on which Iron Mill College received the applicants Programme Booking Form and/or Payment (as per Distance Selling regulations). This cooling-off period will not apply where an Applicant has already downloaded programme materials from the Iron Mill College Student Portal. If an Applicant exercises his/her right to cancel during this 14-day period, he/she will receive a full refund of all amounts already paid less the cost of any services already performed by Iron Mill College before the end of the 14-day period. Specifically, where the Applicant has received log-in details to the Iron Mill College Student Portal and Programme Material as part of the services, £200 will be deducted from the refund amount to cover the cost of Portal set-up and access.
Section 3 above outlines the arrangements for collection of Tuition Fees and any additional administrative charges. This section covers the sanctions which may be used for students who have outstanding fees on their account and is designed to ensure all students are treated equally. Iron Mill College will provide as much support as possible to students experiencing financial difficulties; however, the College and its lecturing team are dependent upon Tuition Fees to be able to offer the programmes available.
If you fail to pay your fees in full before commencing your programme of choice you must be assigned to an agreed Iron Mill College Tuition Fee Contract payment plan, payable via Direct Debit Mandate only. Failure to engage in either option, will result in your Student Account being ‘Frozen’. This means you will be unable to access all College services and facilities, such as module materials, programme information, timetables, your College email account and will be unable to submit assignments through the College’s e-submissions system.
External debt collection:
Iron Mill College reserves the right to refer outstanding debt, relating to ex-students to an external debt collection for recovery.
It is the responsibility of the student to claim back any tax relief available for Iron Mill College programmes. Iron Mill College will provide a Student Status letter and Statement upon request from the student, to assist in their application for tax relief. Students must keep a copy of all electronic receipts, these will not be re-issued.
Continued Professional Development courses and workshops: Bookings for these courses are not eligible for transfer. These courses can be cancelled, and refunds made up to 30 days before the event.
Entry, Advanced and Post Qualifying Iron Mill College courses: If you are considering withdrawing or transferring from your course, you are advised to consult your Tutor prior to making your final decision. If you do decide to withdraw or transfer to another course at Iron Mill College, you should immediately notify the Student Services Officer in writing stating the reasons for leaving the programme. There is a “Leaving Form” available for this purpose. The College will acknowledge the Leaving Form within five working days setting out whether any refund is payable further to Iron Mill College’s Refund Policy.
Courses validated by the University of Worcester: The university has its own regulations regarding leaving/ transferring/ pausing your studies and you are advised to contact Registry Services.
Students are required to have sufficient IT skills and access to appropriate IT facilities to participate in their chosen programme. All students are assigned an individual email address and given access to an online Student Portal. The Portal includes programme materials, an online library and College announcements etc. Students are required to upload all written assignments online through our eSubmissions system built into the Student Portal.
Email is the primary communication method of the College and all students are requested to access their individual email account on a regular basis to ensure receipt of all notices. Iron Mill College does not take any responsibility for students not regularly accessing email and it is the responsibility of the student to ensure they are up to date with programme information, announcements, and updates.
Students with a disability may require accommodations to facilitate their learning. These adjustments will be fully evaluated by Iron Mill College’s Learning Support Officer. On application students are requested to make Iron Mill College aware of any disability, special need or learning support requirement, to allow us to offer as much support as possible.
Where applicable, students may be requested to undertake an Enhanced DBS check. Failure to disclose information, or making a false or an inaccurate declaration, may result in termination of your training. Iron Mill College has the right to withdraw a student from the programme if they do not meet these deadlines.
Iron Mill College endeavours to recruit students who are naturally empathic, with good communication skills, and who can maintain their emotional balance, empathy and respect for others even when experiencing frustration, discomfort and stress. This ability must be upheld as the most basic standard for students who train in the fields of mental health and wellbeing. The vast majority of our students meet this standard, which allows Iron Mill College to provide a supportive and welcoming place to train.
Students who cannot maintain an emotionally balanced, empathic and respectful position at times of frustration or stress can – intentionally or unintentionally - create considerable ongoing disruption, upset and anxiety for both staff and students, and impact the learning experience of others. We expect occasional disagreements and conflicts, which are a natural and healthy part of working and learning in groups, but they must be managed through conversation in which respect and care for others is maintained.
Unacceptable behaviours are unjustifiable in all circumstances for adults training for work with vulnerable people within the helping professions, regardless of any provocation a person feels they have been exposed to, as we have established processes in place to manage such concerns in a professional and fair manner.
