This 2-day (weekend) workshop is aimed at counsellors, psychotherapists and others working in helping professions.

Key Features:

  • Looks at what anxiety is and how to differentiate between, and thus work with, the various types of anxiety disorders e.g. obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, etc.
  • Explores several techniques and skills that are helpful when working with this specific population and also discuss ways of managing common difficulties associated with this work e.g. anger, silence, non-committal responses.
  • Considers why there seems to be a rise in anxiety in children and young people and ways of working with or alongside parents of children with anxiety.

Meet the tutor

Dr Penny Utton (BSc (Hons), CPsychol.DPsych.AFBPsS)

Penny is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Registered Psychologist with the Health Professionals Council (HCPC).

Penny currently runs an independent practice, which includes work with families, children and young people as well as adult mental health, supervision, tailored training and legal work. She specialises in and has completed research on trauma, complex trauma, attachment and abuse.

Penny's background includes running a charitable counselling service for young people, as well as work within the NHS adult mental health and child and adolescent mental health services. She has also worked in student counselling and bereavement counselling, trauma and domestic abuse services, as well as acute and secure settings.

Penny is an integrative practitioner who is trained in cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, psychodynamic and person centred approaches.
