FREE Public Lecture - Exeter, Thursday 13th June 2019

'An Introduction to Reclaiming Your Medicine', with Dr Ali Young

This insightful evening event
at Iron Mill College, Exeter is open to all. It will offer an intriguing preview of our exciting forthcoming Reclaiming Your Medicine - Self Care As Soulful CPD course at Iron Mill.

'An Introduction to Reclaiming Your Medicine', with Dr Ali Young:

Be introduced to the practice of Movement Medicine with our taster evening. Learn what you might gain from participation in a year long group through a short, 15 minute introduction, followed by an experiential workshop involving music, dance and paired sharing, along with a closing circle.

This FREE public lecture will provide an opportunity to gain some useful insights into this diverse form of self-care. Come away with more consciousness around areas where you need to improve self-care and how to ground yourself in the midst of daily demands. Learn how to release unwanted debris from your system; how to establish and maintain healthy boundaries and understand more about how your own family story influences your work. Lastly, gain the confidence to call on more support and how to develop a narrative that builds wellbeing from within.

This event and subsequent CPD course will be beneficial to those who work in a caring capacity with others. This could be counsellors, therapists, psychologists, nurses, carers, healers, alternative practitioners or anyone working in a helping profession. It will be of particular interest to dance and movement therapists as our main medium of work will be movement. This course would also be of benefit to anyone who needs to learn more about looking after their own wellbeing.

Dr Ali Young began her professional life as a performer before training as a social worker and then systemic (family) psychotherapist. She worked at the Church Lane Family Therapy Clinic, CAMHS and JACAT in Exeter over a ten-year period. She is herself intimately familiar with the territory of burnout and compassion fatigue, also having published work on the subject. Her own experiences in this realm led her to train as a shamanic practitioner with The Sacred Trust before being funded by Exeter University Business School to write a doctoral thesis on wellbeing and embodied spirituality. Ali is also an Associate Lecturer on the Mental Health Nursing degree at UWE in Bristol.
