Course Details

In times gone by Britain and many other parts of Europe had a long tradition filled with the presence of those we referred to as our wise women or healers. Way before professionalisation of any kind there was a sense that such individuals were clearly plugged into “something larger than self” in service to those around them. They had, if you like, a vocation or a calling, from “beyond”, which guided their lives. Industrialisation brought many changes with it, in our sense of community, our relationship with nature and in the role and acknowledgment of our wise women. In our contemporary setting this role is still filled by therapists, counsellors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists and many other women who offer day to day care and support to others.

Reclaiming Your Medicine aims to assist in a restoration of value to this role as an offering of profound importance to our communities. Indeed, it seeks to empower and support those who fill these roles. In other contexts you may have been recognised by an elder as an apprentice and assisted to gather the tools, learning and initiations you needed to step into your role as a mature and functional ‘healer’. Today, you may experience yourself as someone who naturally leans towards service, empathy and sensitivity to meeting the needs of those around you. As you probably already know there are pitfalls attached to this, especially in environments in which you may not experience your offerings being fully valued.

This is an experiential course which will reflect on the following areas, over 8 days, spread over the course of a year.

  1. Return to the Source - Learning more about rest and replenishment through experiencing Yin.
  2. Earth and Water – Grounding, clearing and releasing other people’s energies.
  3. Calling the Sacred Fire – Discovering, establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries.
  4. Behind the Veil - Understanding how your family story is affecting your work.
  5. The Mythic Journey - Tuning into a supportive personal narrative for your offering in the world.
  6. The Dream Team - Understanding how you can call on more support from both the seen and unseen realms.
  7. Embodying the Vision - Developing your mission and purpose.
  8. The Way Ahead  - And finally, integrating your learnings, as you move back into the world in a better resourced place.

Mindful movement, otherwise known as Movement Medicine, will be the main teaching method in this CPD. We will also include working in dyads, the circle, writing, art and visualisations. The support and nourishment of being with colleagues is a crucial part of this work and we will be setting up peer groups for support between the scheduled days.

Our CPD workshops are open to anyone who is interested in the subject matter, wants to develop their skills and expand their knowledge. This workshop is particularly aimed individuals from a variety of professional and non-professional backgrounds, who wish to explore whether coaching is an option for their future development or for integration into their current role.

What our Students Say

“My experience with the iron Mill was the best decision in my life, I would rate the IMI 10/10. I'm not saying it was easy, especially starting a new career at the age of 50, but I got through with a lot of hard work and dedication. Our tutors were an inspiration during the four years. Since I got my Diploma I have been so busy counselling, only last week I was offered another new job, it's amazing.”

What our Students Say

"On the Supervision Course I learnt a lot about how to be a supervisor and it has given me confidence to go out and put my new knowledge and skills into practice. But more than that the tutor facilitated a truly responsive learning space that made the experience unique. The best course I have ever done!"
