Motivational Interviewing Taster Session

Working interactively and within a mix of small group and pair work activities, this taster session will provide you with a basic understanding of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and it's applications.      


Learn how this evidence based approach can move individuals from indecision to decision, whilst respecting autonomy, thus leaving responsibility for change with the individual.    

Participants will gain knowledge into the Fundamentals of MI practice including the use of Core Skills within the Spirit and Process of MI and recognise and respond to change talk.                              
 
This course is suitable for anyone working withing the field of Counselling and Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, Probation Services, Addictions, Health and Social Care, and much more...





 

Course Details

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence based approach to resolving ambivalence where behaviour change is needed or desired whilst leaving the decision for change with the individual.

MI has broad applicability and this session provides an opportunity to learn how this collaborative style of communication can move people from indecision to decision and make positive behavioural changes to improve health and wellbeing.
During this taster session participants will learn how MI is done 'with' an individual, skilfully eliciting a person's desire, ability, reasons and need for change and the strength of motivation for change.

Particiapnts will develop knowledge and understanding of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and it's broad applicability within the context of behaviour change.

Learn of the collaborative nature of MI including Core Skills, Spirit and Process.

Develop understanding of recognising and responding to change talk and how this approach can move individuals from indecision to decision.

Participants will gain knowledge into the how to and not to basics, how MI can move individuals from indecision to decision whilst respecting autonomy and leaving responsibility for change with the individual.
